Jarbas Oliveira, photographer and journalist. He started his career out of curiosity and inquietude and with neither family’s nor friend’s influence.
Photojournalist by vocation, he has his images printed among the most important communication vehicles of Brazil: O Globo, Estado de São Paulo, O Dia, Diário de São Paulo, Agora São Paulo, Correio Brasiliense, Estado de Minas, Zero Hora e Folha de São Paulo, where he worked at the editorial staff. In Ceará he worked for the two most important newspapers of the State: O Povo and Diário do Nordeste. He has his images distributed by Agencies Estado, Folha Imagem, Globo, Futura Press to several clients inside and outside Brazil. Besides that agencies and journals, he has images published in magazines such as; Veja, Época, Isto É, Contigo, Quem, Caras, Flash, Placar, Cláudia, Exame, Quatro Rodas Frota. His clients always exceeded the limits by Spanish Agencies EFE, Reuters and Associated Press. He has his work distributed and commercialized in the Bank of Images “Imagem Brazil”.
In the beginning of his career, he participated of the historical moment the Brazilian Photojournalism, when happened the creation of the first photography agencies of Brazil, Agency Angular, by João Bittar and Ágil, by Milton Guran and André Dusek who is reference of Investigate Journalism in the 80´s.
Already covered events like the visit of Pope John Paul II to Brazil in 1992 and the Football World Cup 1998 in France.
In his Curriculum appears the activity as a Photojournalism Professor in the Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC). He also administered photography courses to children in the MST, teenagers from periphery of Fortaleza and in privates schools. That way, he influenced many young people to follow the career in the Journalism showed through images.
He also accomplishes work on Fashion, Publicity, Corporative Events, Press Assessor d Sportive Events and Specialized Magazines.
He participated of several expositions: 38º Salão de Abril; América Latina: 500 anos de conquista, ocupação, submissão” – Munique, Alemanha 1992; “Dependentes da Luz” – Fortaleza (countryside) and João Pessoa, 1993; Fotojornalismo Ceará – Coletiva, 1994; Foto-retrospectiva 2000 – Associação dos repórteres fotográficos de São Paulo – São Paulo,2000; Pedras que cantam. He participated of the books : “Memória do Caminho”, “Ceará Terra da Luz” and “Beberibe, Mar, Sertão e Gente”.
In the last years he has been dedicating his time to his own work. Three books and individual expositions have been produced and soon is coming “Lume” ; one book about the most important squares of Fortaleza : "The book of hours of Praça do Ferreira" in associate to the writer José Mapurunga; Book / Exhibition "The face of Fortaleza”, which tells stories about famous and anonymous characters from Fortaleza and one book/exposition (retrospective from the last 25 years of the Photography .
